It had to start somewhere, so it started here.
Hello!
My name is LaShundra Wigfall, the founder of Bows For Babies Foundation. My very own Newborn Intensive Care Unit ( NICU) warrior was born April 23, 2021 in Oklahoma. I was able to get an insider scoop encompassed of sight, hearing, and emotion of the hardships outside of the obvious, the babies. Everyone knows the little NICU babe bundles are putting up a fight. A fight to live and thrive. There's another fight. Us parents have to get there, be there, and keep a healthy mentality and emotional state. I had to balance leaving my other children at home to see my little NICU miracle everyday. As a single parent, it was even more of a struggle. Family tried to step in and help but they had lives of their own, children and spouses. So it boiled down to me. I battled depression and guilt. I felt guilty if I was too tired to get to the hospital. I felt guilty when I had to leave my children at home to be at the hospital. I felt guilty when I couldn't stay at the hospital long. I felt guilty when I didn't stay long enough. The list goes on.
I was a single mother and the struggle was daily, the whole 3 and a half months. Imagine... some are in there much longer! Some are fostered babies. Some are babies of single parents that don't even have the few luxuries I had.
Bows For Babies Foundation started when I started a business for my youngest 2 sons to celebrate THEM and to use a creative outlet to join fashion and environment awareness. The Boys' BeesKnees uses repurposed fabrics to make bowties for little boys of any age. Little girls and even pets can wear them, too! You can clip them anywhere!
One day I was having a discussion with one of my sisters about how I still have it in my heart to give back to the NICU world. That's when the idea was stormed up and Bows For Babies Foundation was born!
It's not just gifting bows to NICU babies to put a little smile that goes a mile, but we saw a need to get the parent THERE. There with their babies! We are a nonprofit that raises money and obtains grants to provide the relief of the resources you may need such as shelter (for those that have to travel 3 hours or more to visit their babies) and round trip transportation to the hospital so they can spend time with their miracles.
We need you! Each and everyone of you. Spread the word and donate so we can continue to help. The NICU operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and we want to be there for you.
